(11:30 a.m. EDT) - If you've dreamed of tying the knot at sea onboard a Norwegian Cruise Line ship, you can now do so legally: The cruise line will begin offering weddings at sea performed by the ship's captain aboard Norwegian Breakaway, Getaway and on Norwegian Escape after it debuts this fall.
Previously, couples looking to marry would have to do so on shore, producing a marriage certificate first before participating in a ceremony onboard. Now, ship captains are enabled to perform the ceremony with a marriage license that will be issued by the Bahamas.
Norwegian will also offer legal same-sex ceremonies, available in destinations where same-sex marriages are recognized by local law, including Boston, Hawaii, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Vancouver, Tampa, Miami and Port Canaveral.
The new Wedding at Sea package includes a bridal bouquet and matching boutonniere, Champagne toast, wedding cake and a experienced wedding coordinator to aid with the finer details. In addition to its weddings at sea, Norwegian offers destination weddings, harborside ceremonies and vow renewals.
